Ever in the Moonlight
Ever in the Moonlight is my generational continuation of Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market. The story, which will be included in the forthcoming second edition of The Otherworld Magazine, was written based on the theme of fairy fruit. My story follows a precocious young woman as she is drawn into an enchanted world of magic and temptation. Like the original, it explores desire, consequence, and the pull of something otherworldly.
This piece was envisioned as a cover for a young adult fantasy book. The illustration was created in Procreate and finished in Adobe Photoshop. I focused on atmosphere and contrast, with moonlight, shadow, and color evoking the original poem's enchantment and unease. “Our grapes fresh from the vine, Pomegranates full and fine, Dates and sharp bullaces, Rare pears and greengages, Damsons and bilberries, Taste them and try…”
