Flora's Feast

I created this piece as part of the Month of Masters challenge, studying the work of Walter Crane, whose illustrations helped shape the visual language of children’s books. His style draws from influences like the Pre-Raphaelites and Japanese woodblock prints, with a strong sense of rhythm, symbolism, and design.

Crane wrote that children’s books provide “the only outlet for unrestrained flights of fancy open to modern illustrators,” a sentiment that still feels deeply true. His work carries a sense of freedom and imagination that continues to resonate.

This image comes from Flora’s Feast: A Masque of Flowers, where nature and storytelling intertwine through graceful, decorative forms. In recreating it, I focused on the flow of the figure and the balance between simplicity and ornament.
