Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, The Sea Witch reimagines a traditionally villainous character by drawing her into the light and revealing her backstory, motivations, and the different choices she could have made.

Winner of the 2025 Prose Writing Contest by The Fairy Tale Magazine, The Sea Witch was a major milestone in my ongoing exploration of fairy tales and the wild edges of enchantment. While it wasn’t my intention to write on these topics, the story became one of non-traditional motherhood, found family, and transformation.
